The Baroness' Baby Project

Greetings to the crafters of Pentamere,

We have spoken at many canton meetings about “the Baroness’ Project”.  This is a project that I have wanted to begin for many years.  I was blessed to have three normal pregnancies and births.  I have three wonderful children who have grown into wonderful adults.  I can’t imagine the heartache of losing a child at any age but babies are lost too soon and parents need something to hold on to.  That’s where this project begins.

Many people in the SCA work in medical fields and one person, Geillis MacAlpin (mka Kathleen Smith), works at a hospital which has many high-risk pregnancies.  Some of these parents hold their baby once and need something to show the baby is loved.  The nurses create a memory box for these parents.

I am asking any who knit, crochet, or sew to make preemie size items for the hospital.  Below are some websites that have free patterns.  They can use all sizes.  As you choose your materials and patterns here are some guidelines to think about:  1) Use soft materials; 2) Use pastel colors; 3) Make items that are easy to put on and to take off.

My goal is to gather all the items together by the end of January every year.  I would like to present them in court at Val Day and ask anyone who contributed to the project to accompany me.  I would like to make this an annual tradition.

If you have any questions please feel free to talk to me.

In service,

Baroness Gwenllyen the Minstrel
